Course Objective

The aim of this course is to equip the prospective teachers studying at the Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology with basic knowledge and ability regarding computer assisted instruction. Therefore, the basic concepts of computer assisted instruction and their features are taught and students are asked to prepare computer assisted instructional materials.

1   To be able to state the basic concepts and features of computer assisted instruction
2   To be able to state the advantages and disadvantages of computer assisted instruction
3   To be able to state the types and features of computer assisted instruction software
4   To be able to choose appropriate computer assisted instruction methods and materials
5   To be able to know the basic features of learning manegement systems (LMS)
6   To be able to use a learning manegement system (LMS)

1 Introduction of the syllabus and the resources
2 Basic concepts of computer assisted instruction
3 The advantages and disadvantages of computer assisted instruction
4 Methods of computer assisted instruction (the Laboratory method, PC in each class method, personal computer method, Web based instruction) and their features
5 Types of CAI software (Tutorials, Drill and Practice) and discussion on sample software
6 Simulations, Problem solving and educational games software and discussion on sample software
7 Computer Assisted School Management and related software (Kurum net, Bilsa etc)
8 Midterm
9 CAI methods for distance learning teleconferences (audio, video computer teleconferences)
10 Computer technologies used in distance education (synchronous- asynchronous instruction and learning management systems)
11 Teaching and learning via Moodle
12 Tests and exams in Moodle
13 Web based test preparation software (quiz creator, hot patatoes)
14 Evaluation of learning materials created by students
15 Final
