Course Objective

To provide an overview about network and communication structures. To comprehend applications of protocols, explain the structure of the intranet and internet. To recognize the basic network devices.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Define network, recall and compare types
2   Know and distinguish the topology of computer networks.
3   Explain devices used in network systems, what devices should be chosen for what types of networks, and features of the devices.
4   Identify standards and protocols in network systems.
5   Know the OSI model and its layers and define the properties of each layer.
6   Explain network devices working which OSI layer.
7   Know and classify cables on a network system.
8   Set up a small local network and a small local wireless network.

4 Standards and protocols in network systems (RJ-45; TCP/IP, FTP etc.)
5 OSI Models and its' layers
6 The features of the layers of OSI Model
7 Cables in computer network systems
8 Mid-term exam
9 Connection cables and connectors
10 Local Area Networks and the features of LAN
11 Local Area Network applications
12 Wide Area Network and the features of a WAN
13 Wireless Networks and Wireless network applications
14 Remote connection
15 End-of-term exam
