Course Contents

Week Subject Description
Presenting the basic design education course and giving the syllabus. Giving the information of the Micro Etude Project for next week; micro etudes on white surface with black and white paper.
Micro etude: Natural objects, crumpled white paper n black surface application for 4 hrs. (Assignment: 5 micro etudes of metal, glass, cotton etc. artificial objects. Working dark in light, light in dark imaginaries with geometric forms: Working 3d on 2d based on light by using tones by considering structures of basic forms. Finishing the work plus the tone scale on 50x35 for 4hrs.
Macro etude: Using line, an element of design, as an indicator of the structure considering light.
The importance of dot and line as an element of design and the place in basic design course. Giving piece of art samples in order to show the various usages of line. Studying and applying different effects and impressions of dot and line with different materials. Making such researches as size 10x10cm as dots and as lines each 20. Organizing and applying a 25x35 with dots and / or lines.
Working from the real life objects based on 3d effect on 2d considering light and shadow with drawing-dot-line-etude as size 25x35. (Totally 4) Researching from real life objects with ink many more times. Copying master s drawings with pencil and ink; 1 achromatic copy with ink, 5 with pencil. (Until midterm)
Form in visual expression: Organizing by creating new forms from basic geometric forms on a 2d surface with relations of figure-ground, surface, plane, space, direction, axis, symmetry, balance, quantity, rhythm, harmony, movement. 1. Making free sketches on 50x35 paper with pencil (4hrs.) Additional working assignment: Choosing one of the sketches and studying on 50x35 paper with pencil. 2.Geometric Fragmentation; drawing the composition of bust or torso on 50x35 with paper by geometrical fragmentation considering the structure and working with gouache as same size light-middle-dark touches. (4hrs.)
Texture - outside structure: Theoretical approach aimed basic principles. Making natural and artificial texture. (Preparing a texture research folio. Submission date is the final date. Macro etude; trees subjected etude from nature. Drawing a 35x50 with pencil by studying the textural structure from nature. (21hrs.)
Mid-term
Macro etude; trees subjected etude from nature. Knowing that line has variants for reflecting characteristics and structural features and applying on 35X50.
Macro etude; Finishing the trees subjected etude from nature on 35X50. Drawing the same work with pencil and ink.
Structure inside structure; By relating the structure and form knowing basic principles of natural and artificial structures; studying on pieces of art and nature. Making module research sketches. 1. Creating a unit element, replicate it as same size. 2. Creating a new form while creating a whole by connecting unit elements.
Macro Etude: Interior and Object subjected pencil work on 50x70: Sampling the usage of perspective with pieces of arts in the context of organizing in art. Transferring the space object perspective relation into pictorial language of expression. Pencil application on 50x70.
Drawing the 3d effect considering light and structure of objects on 50X70 with pencil.
Completing the macro etude appropriate for the structure of objects. Working the macro etude as a drawing with gouache and ink in 4hrs. (from different point of views and many times)
