Course Objective

This course concentrates on the selected American playwrights who have shaped contemporary American drama. The selected American dramatists intellectual and aesthetic positions will be analysed within both the social contexts of American history and the movements and changes in theatrical conventions.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To have information about the major plays and playwrights of American theatre
2   To understand the social, cultural and historical contexts of the selected plays
3   To explain a variety of forms and styles used in drama
4   To make connections between different works and ideas
5   To analyze the selected plays from different perspectives such as race, gender, class, religion, etc.
