Course Objective

Aims to teach classical Latin language.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of this course, student will gain classical Latin language capacity.
2   They will learn ancient Latin alphabet.
3   They will learn outlines of classical Latin grammer.
4   They will learn epigraphy and numismatics of classical Latin.
5   They will also learn classical Latin literature.

1 Origin of Latin language.
2 Latin alphabet and its origins.
3 Common words of Latin in Turkish and English.
4 Grammer of classical Latin 1: Articles and declenations.
5 Grammer of classical Latin 2: Verbs and declenations.
6 Midterm exam.
7 Field work: Epigraphic collection of the Archaeological Museum of Izmir.
8 Grammer of classical Latin 3: Simple words.
9 Grammer of classical Latin 4: Abbreviations.
10 Grammer of classical Latin 5: Sample declenations.
11 Grammer of classical Latin 6: Simple phrases.
12 Final exam.
