Course Objective

To be informed about the judicial organization of the Ottoman Empire, present-day organization of the judiciary to learn how to develop and present institutions and the establishment of a system of comparison between the old ones to do.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to define the basic concepts related to the judicial organization of the Ottoman Empire.
2   To be able to specify substantially the general and the special courts of the structure and subject-matter jurisdiction in the Ottoman Empire.
3   To be able to distinguish between of the differences to Non-muslim subject to the jurisdiction and muslim subject to the jurisdiction.
4   To be able to explain the reasons of reforms of the judiciary after the Tanzimat.
5   To be able to relate developments in law and judicial organization of the changes.
6   To be able to compare judicial organization in the past and today s judicial organization.

1 - General information about the purpose and content of the Course - Giving information about the course of teaching methods - Students will be given course materials related to the processing of
2 - Generally the classical period of Ottoman judicial organization and give general information about the courts - Resources of the judicial organization
3 - Şeri ye (judge) courts (the structure, functions, composition, functioning)
4 - Kadı and judicial organization of the support workers
5 - Shaykh Al-Islam, the Imperial Council, court of the Grand Vizier, courts of the Kazasker
6 - Special courts of the classical period
7 - The case (case conditions, the evidence, the trial operation) - Legal remedy
8 -Developments of the Ottoman Judicial Organization after the Tanzimat
9 - Trade and mixed commercial courts
10 -Courts of Nizamiye
11 - Special Courts (Community, consular, administrative, military courts) - Shura-yi State, the Court of Justice judgments
12 - Courts of Şeri ye at the Tanzimat Period and Meclis-i Tetkikat-ı Şer iye
13 - general assessment of year-end
