Course Objective

To provide for students knowledge about definitions of Islamic thought, its topics, schools. This course provides for students an understanding of Islamic thought as a whole also evaluation of its problems and using this thought in his or her life.


Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Student will learn definition of Islamic thought and its topic, schools;
2   will grasp relation between schools;
3   will see construction of Islamic thought and its originality;
4   will recognize successes and failures of Islamic thought schools;
5   will gain knowledge about revivization movement raised in Islamic thought.

6 Thought of Reason (Ray) Raising, Representatives, relation between supporter of reason and supporter of narration
7 Islamic jurisprudence, Islamic jurisprudence philosophy, Struggle for sentence(Ictihad), evidences of jurisprudence
8 Midterm exam
9 Theology Kalam and its schools, raising, naming, problems
10 Place of atomism in Islamic theology, Relation between Kalam and Jurisprudence, Relation between Kalam an Philosophy
11 Islamic philosophy definition, topics, zone and borders
12 Philosophical schools in Islam, Peripatetics, Ishrakis and its problems
13 Islamic mystisizm: Sufi Gnosis, Wisdom, Vahdet şuhud unity in external world, Unity in existence, Representatives, New creation, manifestation, perfect human, ayan-ı sabite
14 Revivization in Islam. Revivization movement before modernizm, Problems of reform movement
