Course Objective

To clarify the reasons of why people in Turkey cannot reach the satisfactory level of morality in society and social relations; even though, they have been taught ethical education based on religion, since childhood.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students will be aware of differences between the ethical principles that have been taught, and the acts that people presents.
2   Will learn what kind of relation is there between morality and culture.
3   Will have some ideas about the sources of moral acts that people presents, such as religion, culture, benefits etc.
4   Will have an idea about whether current morality is or is not compatible with modernism and its principles.
5   Will have an idea about whether current moral life is or is not compatible with scientific results.

1 The confliction between 'individual I' and 'social I'
2 The role of morality in converting 'I' to 'We' or 'You'
3 The assessments of institutions in terms of an ideal
4 The act of trying to generalise of particular moralities
5 Morality, as an art of living
6 The disconnection of morality from individual's world view.
7 The increase of state's role in education
8 Mid-term exam
9 Consubstantiality of worship and morality
10 Conflicts between effort and resignation
11 The stick between morality and policy
12 Bigotry: (paying over-attention on something and carelessness for others.
13 Tolerance: ( not punishing someone for thinking unless some crimes will occur from these thoughts.)
14 Non-verification of thoughts by acts
