Course Objective

This course aims to teach physical, chemical and biological parameters for understanding water quality in surface and subsurface water resources and to assess the fate of these parameters in natural environment; to explain the measures that can be taken for sustaining water quality and to describe legislation related to water quality issues.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Knows surface and subsurface waters; understands their role in hydrologic cycle and their interactions.
2   Understands fundamental water quality parameters and classes.
3   Understands the concept of mass balance.
4   Interprets the changes in water quality in natural and engineered systems.
5   Has a grasp of water quality legislation.
