Course Objective

Within the context of this course, it is aimed to teach methods which are used in flood control operations. Structural and non-structural flood control methods will be covered in full detail and relevant information about national and international practices of flood control will be demonstrated. The students will also be informed about the practices modified to assess today s changing climatic conditions.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Transferring basic information about flood risk management.
2   Explaining structural and non-structural flood control measures.
3   Identifying flood risk management problem in the scale of a basin.
4   Ability to analyze flood risk management problem in a basin.
5   Ability to computationally explain flood risk management problem in a basin.
6   Ability to select/work with the modified/modern methods under the changing climatic conditions.
7   Ability to prepare a flood assessment report.

Assessment Criteria

LO 1-2-3-4-5-6: evaluated through tailor-made questions posed during mid-term and final exams.
LO 3-4-5-7: evaluated through reports prepared upon homework assignments.

Course Policies and Rules

Attendance/active participation to the lecture is assessed. Guidelines for preparing reports from homework assignments is distributed at the start of lecture and the homeworks will be asked in due format.
