Course Objective

In the course, the linearly elastic structures are idealized with a single-degree-of-freedom (SDF) and multi-degree-of-freedom (MDF) systems. Dynamic response and internal forces of these structures subjected to dynamic load are obtained.
A primary aim of the course is to give students the solution methods for dynamic behaviour of the structures.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To define the degree-of- freedoms of the structural systems.
2   To select the displacements and internal forces of structural systems subjected to dynamic forces for design.
3   To estimate the dynamic response of the structures subjected to earthquake effects.
4   To compare the earthquake codes.
5   To design the earthquake resistant structures.
6   To define the mode vectors.
7   To explain modal analysis by using examples.
