Course Objective

Students will find chance to practice their basic information gained from Construction Materials lectures within the scope of this course. The production methods, types and application areas of various materials will be analyzed. Advantages and disadvantages of these materials for different applications will be discussed.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of this course the students will be able to classify different types of materials according to their application areas
2   to compare the advantages and disadvantages of metallic materials in construction in a technical manner
3   to choose the thermosetting and thermoplastic polymers and wood types in accordance with the intend of used in Civil Engineering applications
4   to transfer new developments of metal, glass and polymer materials used in Civil Engineering
5   to classify the structural application areas of fiber reinforced composites
6   to interpret the role of geopolymers in the development of new and more environment-friendly materials
7   to compile a literature review related to a material used in civil engineering applications
