Course Objective

The objective of this elective course is to teach the open pit mine planning stages and the effective factors in this planning and also to teach topics that are forwarded to the suitable selection of machinery and equipment.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to determine the design parameters intended to open pit production planning,
2   To gain the skill of geometric dimensioning for an open pit mine,
3   To be able to design the stages of an open pit production plan,
4   To be able to make proper machinery-equipment selection depending on the open pit mining method and rock properties,
5   To be able to calculate the capacities of machinery and equipment and to be able to make economic analysis.

3 Aims of open mine planning and the factors that must be taken into consideration
4 Open pit geometry, slope angles, design of excavation parameters
5 Stages of open pit mine planning-factors which affect short, medium and long term planning
6 Examples of open pit mine planning
7 Mid-term Exam
8 Selection criteria for excavation and loading macihenry and equipment at open pits
9 Diggability classification systems at open pit mines
10 Determination of operation parameters intended to the machinery-equipment selection at open pits
11 Open pit machinery and equipment and their technical features
12 Working conditions of excavator, dragline, bucket-wheel excavator and their selection criteria
13 Open pit mine transport systems
14 Project examples related to selection of machinery-equipment at open pit mines
