Course Objective

The investigation methodology of mineral processing, field study, laboratory study, interpretation and evaluation of experimental results are the scope of this course. The education plan consists of mini lectures, team workshops and individual projects

1   Understanding the importance of mineralogy in mineral processing
2   Defining the significant parameters prior to determination of the beneficiation method
3   Skill development to operate the mineral processing devices and accessories
4   Evaluating the experimental results
5   Designing a flowsheet of beneficiation processes
6   Submitting a final report including the experimental results and laboratory work

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Importance of ore dressing and overall description,
2 Main research steps in mineral beneficiation, sampling
3 Sampling and preparations for obtaining polished and sections and X-Ray analysis
4 Preparation of polished and sections, X-Ray analysis, Microscopic tests and evaluation of the results.
5 Crushing and grinding tests, determination of the particle size distribution and grindability.
6 Determination of the chemical composition for different size intervals
7 Evaluation of size of liberation and submission of a report
8 Discussions on the report and determination of the method, application of the first processing step.
9 Evaluation of test results among the students and determination of next experimental parameters. Application of the next processing step.
10 Evaluation of the previous test results and discussion among students, determination of next experimental parameters. Application of the next experimental process.
11 Evaluation of experimental results and discussion
12 Mid-Term Exam 1
13 The flow sheet design and material balance, preparation of project reports
14 Presentation and submission of Team Project Reports

Every laboratory work should be prepared as homework for the following week depending on the lectures and laboratory practices. The collection of experimental results should be given as a report and presented at the end of the semester
