Course Objective

The objectives of the course are to teach the mechanical and electrical structures of the numerical control machines and the internal structures of the control units by explaining the basic concepts about numerical control and the fundamentals of the programming of the numerically controlled machines.

1   To define the concept of numerical control
2   To define numerical controlled machines according to different classification method
3   To make a choice necessary numerical controlled machines according to produced parts
4   To define necessary program codes for computer aided manufacturing
5   To write suitable program for producing part

1 Cutting machines, history and development of numerical controlled machines
2 Fundamental elements of numerical controlled machines
3 General constructions of numerical controlled machines, tool changers and part loading systems
4 Coordinate systems on programing, control types and interpolation
5 General structure of part programs, ISO programing methods, G and M codes
6 Manufacture of parts with turning, program codes
7 Thread cutting, tool compensation and interpolation, repeating operations and subprograms for turning
8 Midterm exam-1
9 Manufacture of parts with milling, program codes
10 Tool compensation and interpolation, repeating operations and subprograms for milling
11 Midterm exam-2
12 General properties of commercial CAM programs, introducing SolidCAM program
13 Obtaining CAM programs for sample turning parts by using SolidCAM
14 Obtaining CAM programs for sample milling parts by using SolidCAM
