PROFESSOR ERDAL ÇELIK

Offered to

Metallurgical and Materials Engineering

Course Objective

Objectives of this course are: To make the students understand the integreted circuits, current, capasitance, bands, bonds, semiconductors, bariers, junctions, transistors, crystallography, crystalline defects, diffusion, ion implantation, thermal oxidation, chemical vapor deposition, metallization, phase diagrams, reaction kinetics, energy bands, wave behavior, heterostructures, heteroepitaxy, assembly and packaging. Have a first hand experience about the topics of these systems through laboratory experiments and semester projects.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To understand fundamental terms related with technological importance, fabrication and semiconductivity of integrated circuits
2   To understand the effects on semiconducting properties of crystallography and crystalline defects
3   To learn p- and n-type semiconductors by doping 5 and 3 valance elements into semiconducting materials by diffusion method, and also learn ion implantation system and diffusion of ion implanted impurities.
4   To correlate relationship among phase diagrams and properties concerning oxidation and metallization processess
5   To know properties of heterostructures including transistor, photodetector, laser, diode and optoelectronic devices and assembly and packing of electronic devices such as chip and transistor.
6   To use the instruments and tools required for the experiments
7   To interpret and present by reportingthe results obtained from the analysis and synthesis processes
