Course Objective

To introduce failure , failure mechanisms and causes of failure in structures, to make familiar with corrosion and prevention methods, to introduce electronic, magnetic, thermal and optical properties of materials.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To describe fracture types and factors cause brittle fracture of materials.
2   To recognize the terms definying characteristic behaviours of materials under various loads.
3   To recognize and interpret the behaviours of materials under chemical and electrochemical attacts.
4   To define the conductivity, semiconductivity and nonconductivity and to formulate the differences between them.
5   To recognize magnetic and superconductivity properties of materials.
6   To depict the mechanisms controlling thermal behaviours of materials.
7   To depict and interpret the factors controlling thermal shock behaviours of materials.
8   To recognize the mechanisms controlling the .optical properties of materials.
