Course Objective

Teaching Computer Aided Design and implementing the system, which is one of the essential parts of urban design and city planning process. Gaining three dimension modeling, object texturing, lighting, animating and rendering skills. Teaching how to use CAD in process of visioning, sketching, modeling and feedback.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understanding Computer Aided Design concept and related technologies,
2   Defining CAD process main attributes and it's components.
3   Using one of the recent Computer Aided Design software and managing a CAD process.
4   Creating vector models that define visioning/designing urban spaces.
5   Using layer, block and object functions to manage vector drawings.
6   Preparing presentations and layouts to show designed models.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Computer Aided Design, related concepts, definition, and technologies. What are minimum necessities makes a design process as CAD.
2 What is Computer Aided Design concept; what are the technologies related with CAD and what are the objectives of these technologies.
3 Introduction of software used in planning process. Autocad among drawing and design programs.
4 Explaining three dimensioned drawing concept and using basic drawing commands.
5 Using basic drawing commands and starting case project of the course.
6 Teaching editing commands and its applications
7 Explaining view and viewport commands and using them in case project.
8 Explaining dimension and scale commands and using them in case project.
9 Mid-term Exam Laboratory studies
10 Creating 3D models for urban design and deciding among different possibilities.
11 Scanning two dimensional maps and plans. Making them underground maps with real dimensions.
12 Creating legal notation of development plans and drawing two dimensional urban plans with CAD.
13 Aggregation of area and density of lots in development plans.
14 Creating 3D model of the case project. Designing layout maps, editing page setup and creating presentations.

Ability of using computer will be measured in the computer laboratory via CAD programs.

Course will be held in computer laboratory. Conception, definitions and new technologies related CAD will be explained with virtual presentation in computer lab.
