Course Objective

This course aims to introduce terminology relative to the administration of cities; discussion of theoretical approaches within the context of different social-economical and political processes. It also aims to introduce the Turkish legal framework about the administration of cities

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Define the necessities of democratic aspects of city administration
2   Identify the social, economical and political processes of administration of cities
3   Express different approaches of city administration within the historical process
4   Interpret the transformation process to governance of cities
5   Explain the current and changing Turkish legal framework of city administration

2 Contrast and complementary between Local and Central Governments; Different types of local governments
3 Development of local government systems within the historical process
4 Development of local government system within the Ottoman and Turkish Society
5 The last quarter of the 20th century: Transition from governmental to governance systems: 1: Theories of governmental perspectives of the Keynesian Welfare State
6 The last quarter of the 20th century: Transition from governmental to governance systems II: Development of Neo-Liberal Theories, and transition from governmental to governance of cities
