Course Objective

Living problems concerning natural disasters in cities of world and our country prove that various investigating related to natural disasters in urbanization and city planning process is necessary. Therefore this course aims to approaching some subjects that are characteristics, risks and impacts on cities of natural disasters, disaster management and relating legislation, risk management and mitigation planning, approaching in accordance with relation between city planning and risks and problems in cities related natural disasters. In this subject, information is conveyed that planners will be able to need in preparing process of development plans in the way of natural disasters.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   will be able to define characteristics, risks and impacts on cities of natural disasters,
2   will be able to explain process, components and related legislation of disaster management
3   will be able to discuss the role of risk management and mitigation planning in disasters management,
4   will be able to associate natural disasters with urban planning,
5   will be able to question roles of mitigation planning, politics and management in city planning process,
6   will be able to use approach considering parameters and risks of natural disasters in planning process,

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

This course will be given through lectures and readings, the students will learn by listening the lectures and readings. Besides the midterm examination, students will be asked to prepare homework assignment.
