Course Objective

This course will focus on understanding to the concept of the city in the whole region. For this purpose, factors belonging to a city and its environment as social differentiation, sectoral development, employment, conservation of ecological and historical values and so on are examined. Developing of alternative planning approaches and providing a balance between urban growth and rural development that understanding of existing planning practice is aimed.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1 will be able to define city together with in its region (Knowledge),
2   2 will be able to tell city and its region economic, social structure, ecological and historical values in historical period (Knowledge),
3   3 will be able to explain differences and tensions between urban and rural area (Comprehension),
4   4 will be able to interpret for solving the urban and regional problems using and the content and approach of existing planning practices (Application),
5   5 will be able to adapt the basic parameters of the planning approach in order to balance between industrial development and ecological / historical values for rural / urban development (Application),
6   6 will be able to plan of urban and regional systems with the alternative approaches (synthesis)

1 Collection of data about case study, establishment of project groups who will work on land, preparations for the technical visiting
2 Collection data from relevant institutions and organizations about whole city; land use; meetings related with planning process about city and technical visiting

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

This course will be given through lectures, readings, field survey, research about examples, preparation of research reports and maps in the form of individual or group work, critiques of projects carried out in the form of individual or group work and preparation of project reports.
