Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to evaluate and analyze the concepts of context and historical environment from multidimensional views; and to develop design solutions for a theme structured in the given context.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1	Ability to define the concepts of historical environment and context.
2	Define the spatial counterparts of the fundamental requirements of historical environment and program.
3	Determination of the fundamental design requirements such as environmental analysis, specification of the program and settling on the land within the framework of the given design problems.
4	Focus on the design priorities around a main architectural concept.
5	Ability to express the developing architectural ideas with the instruments of design such as the relations with the historical tissue, spatial organization, architectural style and the components of the building via graphical, written and oral presentations.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The method is based on the Project/Problem-Based Learning. The students respond to the questions posed by the instructors throughout the course and progress by design critiques. The performance of the students are observed and recorded via the commentaries in the studio, in the mid-term and in the final juries.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

1) Being approved by the academic members or lecturers of 5 of the 8 individual critics to be taken during the term is a prerequisite for the Final Delivery. Those who fail to comply with this requirement will not be able to make a Final Delivery.
2) It is obligatory to go to the Interim Jury and it is a prerequisite for Final Delivery.
3) Attendance to the studio and participation in the commentaries are obligatory.
4) Assessments are done through Presentations, the Preliminary Jury and the Final Jury.

Assessment Criteria

Presentation + Mid-term Exam (Interim Jury) % 25 (LO1, LO2, LO3, LO5)
Final Exam (Final Jury) % 75 (LO1, LO2, LO3, LO4, LO5)
