Course Objective

The aim of this course is to provide students to understand the theory of spectroscopic techniques (UV, IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, MS) and interpretation of spectra and apply these knowledge in interpreting the structure of unknown molecules

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Discuss which information can be obtained from spectroscopic techniques used in structural identification of organic compounds
2   Comment about the conjugation level of organic compounds by using UV-Vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy methods
3   Interpret the mass spectra of organic compounds
4   Determine the functional groups of organic compounds by FT-IR spectroscopy
5   Learn what kind of information can be get by interpreting the 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectra of organic compounds
