Course Objective

Concentration on the changing meanings and receptions of the Space phenomenon in the history and begin to take a dominant role in the architectural theory, this course aims to present the transformation of the "Architectural Space" phenomenon over time through theoretical approaches.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To define the multi-layered structure of the space conception
2   To be familiar with the multiple meanings of the phenomenon of Space in the fields of architecture, art, philosophy and science
3   To distinguish the periodical differances between the varying receptions of space
4   To describe the social, economic, political, cultural factors and parameters which transform the space phenomenon
5   To formulate the current theoretical approaches on architectural space by visually, verbally and in writing

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course will be proceed with the theoretical lectures, as well as with the discussions on the students' individual researches and presentations. Students will prepare a final report and presentation on their research topics.

Assessment Criteria

The reports and presentations will be evaluated based on the depth and sufficiency of the researches and the originality of the issues and problems argued by the student.
Active Participation to the Lecture grade will depend on the student's attendance and active participation in the class discussions and their performances in the analysis studies.
