Course Objective

Physical reflection of different cultures in Anatolia where different civilisations found shelter during the historical period, is seen in it's Architecture. It is aimed at having the students acquire the skill of thinking over and discussing the house varieties determined by countless variables such as location, dimension, material, topography and etc. besides cultural diversity.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to classify the Anatolian Housing Architecture in different ways,
2   To be able to explain the Anatolian Houses with samples,
3   To be able to discuss the Turkish House,
4   To be able to interpret the concept of Traditional House,
5   To be able to evaluate comparatively the differences and similarities among different samples of Anatolian Housing Architecture,
6   To be able to draw conclusions concerning the Anatolian House in the context of social structure and culture.

2 Concept of traditional house and Anatolian House.
3 The factors affecting the traditional housing architecture.
4 House typology in Anatolia.
5 Typologic evaluation and samples. House typology according to the materials (wood, stone).
6 Typologic evaluation and samples. House typology according to the materials (sun-dried brick, mixed material)
7 Mid - term examination, Typologic evaluation and samples. House typology according to plan scheme.
8 Typologic evaluation and samples. House typology according to façade scheme.
9 Typologic evaluation and samples. House typology according to settlement type.
10 Typologic evaluation and samples. House typology according to social structure.
11 The Turkish House.
12 Studying typological evaluations about the Ottoman-Turkish house.
13 Typologic evaluation House typology according to social structure. Houses under Western influence (the Levantine, Greek houses).

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course is taught in a lecture, class presentation and discussion format.
Visual materials will be used intensively.

The evaluation of participation in the course, will be determined with attendance by the student, his/her active participation in the discussion medium during the course and his/her qualitative contribution in this context.

Within the scope of this lecture, the comprehension dimension (LO1), the practice dimension (LO2), the analysis dimension (LO3), the evaluation dimension (LO4, LO5), the synthesis dimension (LO6) of learning is measured.
