Course Objective

The course aims to provide for teaching thermal resourses of the Earth, heat generation in the Earth, thermal distribution in the Earth crust and inner Earth, thermal properties of the rocks, thermal conductivity and heat flow, heat flow measurements in land and in sea.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The ability to get information on termal resourses of the Earth, heat generation and heat conduction,
2   The ability to get information on temperature and heat distribution in the Earth crust and inner Earth,
3   The ability to analyze the concepts of heat flow and thermal gradient,
4   The ability of acquire information about the thermal properties and thermal conductivity of rocks,
5   The ability of thermal modeling and to interpret heat flow maps,

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course shall be given as lecture, class presentations and discussion format. All class members are expected to attend both the lecture and seminar hours and take part in the discussion sessions. Besides taught lecture, group presentations are to be prepared by the groups assigned for that week and presented to open a discussion session.
