Course Objective

The objective of this course is to apply normalized full gradient, Euler deconvolution, boundary analysis, the radial power spectrum, wavelet analysis, Curie depth calculation methods to the natural potential field data and the results of these implementations will be comprehended and interpreted by graduate students together with seismological and geological data.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

3   To be able to comprehend Wavelet analysis
4   To be able to calculate the Curie depth using magnetic data

1 The normalized full gradient method and the criteria for its application to the geophysical data and its implementation to the theoretical model anomalies
2 Application of the normalized full gradient method to the measured and processed natural potential field data (gravity, magnetic, self potantial), sample problems and assessments
3 Euler deconvolution method, mathematical investigations within the method and its applicationto the theoretical model anomalies
4 Application of Euler deconvolution method to the measured and processed natural potential field data (gravity, magnetic), sample problems and assessments
5 Boundary analysis method and its application to the theoretical model anomalies
6 Application of Boundary analysis method to the measured natural potential field data (gravity, magnetic), 1 st homework
7 1 st midterm exam
8 Calculating Curie Depth using magnetic data, its mathematical definition and physical meaning
9 Obtaining heat flow data from curie depth calculation and its application to the magnetic field data
10 Definition of Wavelet analysis, 2 nd homework
