Course Objective

The aim of this course is to give ability of design an exploration program and management device of such kind of exploration project.

1   To be able to apply advanced geochemical methods in mineral exploration
2   To know the behavior of elements in magma
3   To know the behavior of elements in atmospheric conditions.
4   To design exploration programs for different types of mineralization
5   To know the principals of the geochemical methods using in mineral exploration

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Classification of ore deposits. Major controls in ore forming systems.
2 Geochemical methods using in mineral exploration. The role of geochemistry in mineral exploration.
3 Behaviour of elements in melt. Partial melting. Compatable and incompatable elements.
4 Mobility of elements in surface in atmospheric conditions.
5 Path finder elements for different types of mineralization.
6 Factors in designing of a geochemicel exploration program.
7 Geochemical data set: Methods in rock sample collection.
8 Methods of geochemical sampling: Soil sampling.
9 Methods of geochemical sampling: Stream sediment sampling.
10 Midterm exam
11 Methods of geochemical sampling: Water and plant sampling.
12 Chemical methods for analyse organic, inorganic solid and liquid materials
13 Geochemical anomaly.
14 Preparetion of geochemical maps and their meaning.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Lectures are given in interactive methods. The group visit some labs to apply geochemical analyse methods.
