Course Objective

This course is devoted to present theoretical bases of wave propagation in finite and infinite media with examples chosen from elasticity, acoustics and geophysics. Wave types, dispersion, reflection, refraction and transmission of plane waves in waveguides such as rods, beams, plates, shells etc. are also of concerns for this course. The course also considers free and forced vibrations of waveguides with approximate theories of waves.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To comprehend theory of wave propagation with basic concepts.
2   To find out wave types in finite and infinite media.
3   To acquire skills to make mathematical derivations for wave propagation in solids.
4   To have considerable knowledge on approximate theories of beams and plates.
5   To become skillful at interpretting wave behaviour in everyday phenomena.
6   To improve skill on making research on a subject related to wave propagation.
