Course Objective

Dynamical aspects of carding and drawing based on statistical mechanics and those of spinning, weaving and knitting processes based on geometrical models, will be introduced. The course also aims at showing how textile processes are controlled by automatic control systems.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Ability to understand the basic yarn and fabric manufacturing processes.
2   Ability to analyse textile processes by applying mathematical methods.
3   Ability to use scientific approach to solve practical problems.
4   Ability to understand process control and to apply it to textile processes
5   Ability to understand the theoretical aspects of yarn irregularity and on methods of its minimisation.

The course aims to give the students a deeper understanding of carding, drawing, spinning, weaving and knitting processes and their mechanical aspects in relation to the properties of textile materials, namely fiber, yarn and fabric, and to the machine parameters.
