Course Objective

Marine geology and geophysics program, the Institute research ship R / V K. Piri Reis, made the sea and the geological and geophysical instruments and equipment used in the introduction, methods, aims to teach the practice. This course can be followed in any textbook curriculum is not only the device and the equipment used and the corresponding passages of the lecture notes were used as promotional catalogs.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The basic principles of wave propagation and wave types.
2   Determining the location of marine research vessel.
3   Depth measurements, engineering seismic, air gun and refraction seismic.
4   Side-scan sonar and magnetometer systems to receive data.
5   Describes the basic principles and usages of geotechnical investigation equipment.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 General information on wave propagation and reflection, boundary conditions, reflection and refraction coefficients, the calculation of the speed of sound in water.
2 Information on transducers, piezoelectric crystals, piezoelektik ceramic materials, electromagnetic transducers and manyetostrüktif.
3 Horizontal positioning and control systems, and Trisponder systems Autocarta II.
4 Bathymetric survey instruments, Atlas-Deso 10 echosounder, Edige 10 numeric pointer Atlas Atlas 480 and Simrad Skipper 406 echosounder systems echography.
5 Engineering seismic system O.R.E. Information on the Model 1032, Sparker, Uniboom seismic systems.
6 Shallow seismic sparker device (SIG) working principle and the data samples,
7 Airgun seismic reflection survey instruments as a source of energy and Benthos Model 406 Bolt PAR-600B Introduction streamer receiver unit.
8 Seismic refraction survey instruments Sonobuoylar Telseis STR-70 and SB-76.
9 Midterm I.
10 EG G side-scan sonar system and records, examination of Mark-1B.
11 Benthos Model 2171 Gravity-type barrel and Alpine Vibracorer systems and their use.
