Course Objective

Institute of Marine Science and Technology Coastal Engineering in the Department of Marine Sciences, Marine Technology program is taught in this course, which will be held in the coastal areas damaged by earthquakes, often the biggest coastal planning and construction of the ground during an earthquake to show behaviors necessary bearing capacity and ground improvement are discussed.
Earthquakes are moving as a whole during the planning and construction of ground and surface structures of different disciplines emphasize the importance of co-operation.

1   To improve and build the coastal areas, coastal planning.
2   Soil and land planning and construction of structures of different disciplines to work in partnership.
3   The importance of coastal oceanography research.
4   Relations with the seas and coastal geological geophysical geotechnical studies.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 View from the sea in coastal areas, general information. Stratified marine environment, sea surface and sea floor.
2 Acoustic measurements in the seas. The importance of coastal oceanography research
3 Acoustic (sound) waves and propagation. The sound source and Huygens, Fermat, Snellius principles.
4 Reflection and refraction of plane waves. Sfreik diffraction and reflection of waves.
5 Geological-geophysical and geotechnical studies conducted in the seas. Introduction of the necessary infrastructure for the synthesis of sub-sea maps.
6 Horizontal positioning systems, trisponder, GPS, etc. systems. Bathymetric survey instruments, various features of sonar systems.
7 MIDTERM I.
8 Engineering studies with research active faults. Off-shore seismic engineering research studies
9 New opening engineering evaluation of seismic records. Depending on the choice of various seismic ground system.
10 Side-scan sonar system, coastal engineering. Lateral scan sonar technology to investigate faults.
11 Marine research gained through the fault maps associated with coastal structures. Historical earthquakes and the damage along the coast.
12 Seabed sampling techniques. Geotechnical analysis of samples of the sea floor.
13 Soil improvement techniques. The importance of the coastal structure-soil interaction.
14 MIDTERM II.
