Course Objective

The main objective of this course is to introduce the students to the fundamental knowledge about quantitative project evaluation techniques and in particular investment decisions within the public institutions. The course focuses on two main basic techniques of project evaluation within the field of planning: cost benefit analysis and post-occupancy evaluation. Data organization and hands-on applications are included in the course.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understand the formulas and algorithms to apply the cost-benefit analysis
2   Conceive the application areas of the cost-benefit analysis and post-occupancy evaluation in the field of planning
3   Understand the steps of the two basic tools of project evaluation: cost benefit analysis and post-occupancy evaluation
4   Interpret the results derived from the cost benefit analysis and post-occupancy evaluation
5   Decide which project to choose from a number of alternative projects using project evaluation techniques
