Course Objective

This course aims to develop the sensitivity of the urban design student about healthier and livable housiing environments. The course covers natural, social, and built aspects of residential districts and focuses on user needs. During the course the examination of potentials and problems will be handled in different cases. The problems on adequate housing and design elements of the qualified, healthier and livable communities will be
discussed. New inclines toward solutions and new design approaches will be put on the agenda.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of this course, students, will be able to define the characteristics and features of livable residential areas
2   will be able to list the needs of people in a sustainable community,
3   will be able to describe the design principles of a sustainable community,
4   will be able to interprete the principles to practice,
5   will be able to analyze the success of the practice.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

This course will be given through lectures. Students will learn topics by attending and listening the lectures. Homeworks will be given to students in second week and they will be asked to prepare their homeworks on the subjets given to them.
