Course Objective

Cities have a multi layers structure which consists of various urban network formations as natural, administrative, economic, social, cultural and physical. Each one of urban networks has specific characteristics and they are developed frame of having principles, rules and standards. Therefore this course aims to approaching some subjects that are relation of complex cities with regional and urban networks, various urban network formations and their characteristics, problems and solutions, relation of urban network with land use and city form, analysis in city planning and urban design process and design approach, strategy and standards basing on urban network. Consequently students have opportunity to sense and understand urban networks with different dimensions and to question and assessment urban networks within urban design and city planning process.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Will be able to define regional and urban networks, formations and characteristics,
2   Will be able to explain problems and solutions of urban networks,
3   Will be able to discuss relation between urban networks with each other, land use and city form,
4   Will be able to question position of urban networks in city planning and urban design process with different points,
5   Will be able to evaluate alternative methods understanding urban networks,
6   Will be able to develop design approach, strategy and standards basing on urban networks in city planning and urban design process considering World and Turkey practices.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

This course will be given through lectures and readings, the students will learn by listening the lectures and readings. Besides the midterm examination, students will be asked to prepare homework assignment.
