Course Objective

This course aims to be useful in understanding land destruction in terms of morphology, flora, fauna, and hydrology, caused by open-pit mining, and, precautions to be taken in order to minimize this destruction. Moreover, methods and techniques of adapting so-destructed land parts to the natural environment will be discussed.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To understand the causes and range of destruction of landscapes due to open-pit mining
2   To collect knowledge about how this damage should be prevented and/or destructed land parts be repaired
3   To investigate alternative usage areas of abandoned open-pits
4   To be able to collect knowledge required to plan the open-pit activities regarding reclamation
5   To understand the reasons, the aim, and scope of reclamation in mining
