Course Objective

To be able to read internationally recognized diamond certificates according to 4C s of diamond value, and to accommodate for a full-cut brilliant, and to trade rough and cut diamonds.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To able to comprehend color, clearance, cut and carat subjects in diamonds.
2   To able to comprehend color, clearance, cut and carat subjects in diamonds.
3   To able to comprehend diamond cutting models and distinctive characteristics of diamonds.

5   To able to distinguish from each other of natural, synthetic, and artificial diamonds.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 History of diamond cutting. Historical development of full-cut brilliant cutting. Physical and optical features of diamonds.
2 4C s of the polished diamonds (color, clarity, cut and carat weight).
3 Classification regarding to color of the polished diamonds. Effects on full-cut brilliant of fluorescence. How do full-cut brilliant assess in the visible color range. Enhanced and fancy colored diamonds. Economics of rough diamonds. Worldwide famous diamonds
4 How the clarity finds out and assesses- inclusions and lattice defects. Assessment of the polished diamond regarding to clarity. How do the inclusions appearance and durability.
5 Assessment of the polished diamonds regarding cut and weight. Differences between carat and karat
6 Assessment of Crown and pavilion as well as total dept.
7 Mid-term exam
8 Assessment of rations. How does the cutting light effect the stone s value. Essentials in fancy cuts and mounted diamonds
9 International diamond grading systems and reports. How does a diamond report read GIA, CIBJO, HRD, IGI diamond grading systems.
10 Identification of the diamonds. Synthetic and artificial diamonds and distinguishing. Enhancement and treatment on the coloration and clarity. Synthetic moissanite and the other stimulants and distinguishing from the natural ones.
11 Most popular diamond cut models.
12 Geology of the diamond deposits.
13 Diamond sources (deposit, geological disturbance, primary and secondary formations, the worldwide establishments of diamond mining.
14 Full-cut diamond dealers in Turkey and the world. How does the market continue Diamond bourses- professional and official organizations.
