Course Objective

Students will be introduced the basic concepts of Lean Production Systems. Principles of lean production, JIT manufacturing, Flexible manufacturing systems, and Group technology and Cellular manufacturing systems are elaborated. Students will also learn how to apply lean production tools and methods such as 5S, TPM, JIDOKA, Poka-Yoke and SMED in real world settings. Case studies and papers, especially on implementation issues, are discussed.

1   Understand the basic concepts of lean production systems, JIT manufacturing, Flexible manufacturing systems and Group technology
2   Understand the concepts of JIT manufacturing, Flexible manufacturing systems and Group technology
3   Explain the principles of lean production

5   Perform reengineering planning for lean manufacturing
