Course Objective

Physical and chemical methods utilised in immobilization of microorganisms having many advantages compared with free cells in terms of yieldance and ease of operation, optimization criteria of immobilization conditions, some factors effecting yieldance in immobilization and applications and some applications will be discussed.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Have a knowledge about and discuss microorganism growth and bioproduct formation kinetic,
2   Have a knowledge about and discuss biotechnological processes, biotransformations, primer and seconder metabolite,
3   Have a knowledge and produce an idea about microbial cell immobilization methods,
4   Have a knowledge and produce an idea about fermentation technology of immobilized cells,
5   Have a knowledge and produce an idea about applications of immobilized cell in pharmaceutic and nutrient technologies.

Assessment Criteria

Meaningful learning of the basic concepts given in presentations, association of concepts with each other, establishing the cause-result relationships and making comments by using the information available for problems and evaluating idea generation are carried out with mid-term and final exams, homework and presentations.
