Course Objective

Various methods, techniques and strategies which can be applied for isolation and purification of particularly proteins and products obtained in biotechnology will be dealt, possible problems will be discussed, optimization criteria will be evaluated.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Have a knowledge about basic principle and strategies in biotechnological seperation applications and discuss,
2   Have a knowledge about cell disruption methods and produce alternatives,
3   Have a knowledge about microfiltration, ultrafiltration, concantration, purification, electrophoretic methods used in purification processes and their application areas,
4   Make applications of removal of salts and buffer exchange, dialysis, diafiltration, gel filtration,
5   Have a knowledge about applications of ion exchange, hydrophobic interaction and affinity chromatographies in bioprocesses, protein chromatography and produce an idea.

Meaningful learning of the basic concepts given in presentations, association of concepts with each other, establishing the cause-result relationships and making comments by using the information available for problems and evaluating idea generation are carried out with mid-term and final exams, homework and presentations.
