Course Objective

The purpose of the course is highlighting the importance of risk assesment studies for limiting and controlling the hazards which may occur in the mineral processing unit operations. The course aims to make the students be able to conduct risk assesment and evaluation studies and take necessary precautions. Students will also be aware of legal responsibilities and competencies for engineers about safety risks in minerals industry.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To define and classify the risks and workplace safety issues in mineral processing plants
2   To recognize the importance of the improvements in workplace safety management processes in minerals industry
3   To identify safety hazards and environmental aspects and risks in minerals industry
4   To organize the work teams and individuals to achieve their objectives
5   To investigate and evaluate safety and environmental accidents and incidents in minerals industry
6   To conduct safety and environmental risk assessments in mineral processing plants
7   To implement and manage effective safety and environmental systems in Mineral processing plants
8   To recognize the responsibilities and competencies for mining engineers about safety risks and environmental aspects in mineral processing plants

9 Workplace safety at the comminution and classification plants
10 Workplace safery at the plants involving physical and physicochemical processes
11 Workplace safety at leaching plants
12 Assessment of risk management procedures in the comminution and classification plants using sample scenarios (Student presentations)
13 Assessment of risk management procedures in the plants involving physical and physicochemical processes on sample scenarios (Student presentations)
