Course Objective

The medium conditions in fermentation technology, sterilization, inoculation, aeration, agitation applications and characterization, microbial growth kinetic, fermentor design, purification of fermentation products, recovery of these products and waste material applications will be discussed and evaluated.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Examine fermentation process and microbial growth kinetic,
2   Examine and evaluate the effects of the medium, sterilization, inoculation, aeration, agitation and waste material application for industrial fermentation,
3   Examine how a fermentor can be designed, its instrumentation and control,
4   Correlate the recovery and purification of fermentation products with various techniques,
5   Aware of the importance of fermentation technology in country economy.

Meaningful learning of the basic concepts given in presentations, association of concepts with each other, establishing the cause-result relationships and making comments by using the information available for problems and evaluating idea generation are carried out with mid-term and final exams, active participation to the lecture, homework.
