Course Objective

This course introduces students to the study of popular culture and popular music, employing the interdisciplinarity of cultural studies.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1	The students who succeeded in this course will be able to; 1. recognize the relationship between disciplinary music studies and other interdisciplinary researches
2	grasp the relationship between musicstudies and cultural studies as an interdisciplinary research area.
3	describe the bacis concepts and theories of cultural studies in the context of music studies
4	determine that ethnomusicology is study for cultural and musical variety
5	recognize that this course provides not only educational setting, but also serves as collaborative learning experience.

The topics covered include: the meaning and practices of everyday life, definitions of 'the popular', theories of mass culture, youth and subcultures/scenes, cultural identitiy and music, popular music in the global and local contexts, and ethnographies of popular music-making.
