*To gain an understanding of carsinogenesis

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Knows and uses the correct nomenculature in topics related to malign transformation and cancer
2   Lists the biological differences between normal and transformed cells.
3   Recounts different carcinogenesis theories; defines the concept of clonality.
4   Knows and repeats the activation/deactivation mechanisms and features of oncogenes and tumour suppressor genes
5   Describes cellular functions that have changed in malign transformation (proliferation, cell death, signal transduction, cell-cell interactions and adhesion molecules)
6   Describes the cell skeleton and its role in cell motility & mobility
7   Explains the concept and characteristics of a stem cell ; lists differentiation control mechanisms
