Course Objective

The purpose of this course is after following the clinical microbiology laboratory applications-I, to provide understanding basic princibles of mycological, virological, serological and immunological tests are being used in routine, additionaly how to apply and itrpert the test results for identifying microroganism.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Can understand the basic operating principles of laboratory tests for the mycological identification tests
2   Can understand the basic operating principles of laboratory tests for the virology and serologic identification tests
3   Can understand the basic operating principles of laboratory tests for the immunologic identification tests
4   Understand how to applicate the laboratory tests
5   Be able to associate laboratory test results with microorganism
6   Be able to interpret the tests for identification of bacteria, viruses and fungus used to distinguish from each other.
7   Be able to apply identification tests for autoimmun diseases.
8   Be able to apply identification tests for fungus and viruses.
9   Be able to identify the virus and fungus from unknown samples.

Course Contents

1 Preparation of materials and dyes for the purpose of direct examination, Preparation of mycologic media mycological for the primary isolation.
2 Preparation of speciemens for direct examination and culture to the mycologic media, Evaluate the cultures and apply further fungal identification process I
3 Apply further fungal identification process II
4 Identification of Zygomycetes group molds according to glass culture results ( Absidia app, Mucor spp, Rhizopus spp)
5 Searching for fungal nucleic acid by polymerase chain reaction
6 Principles of methods of serological testing, implementation and evaluation of results
7 The methods used in the diagnosis of viral infections; Cell cultures
8 Immuno chemical methods used to identify micro-organisms
9 Confirmation tests for HIV and HCV, Evaluate the western blot results
10 Molecular diagnostic tests; Detection of Hantavirus by PCR
11 Autoimmun antibodies and their roles I
12 Autoimmun antibodies and their roles II
