Course Objective


The goals of this course are to introduce the student to the basic concepts of the mechanisms of carcinogenesis and to begin applying these concepts to research problems.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Synthesizing, analysing with qualitative an quantitative data, interpretation and evaluation of collected information about normal and cancer cells.
2   Acquire basic and clinical cancer knowledge
3   Identifiable the carcinogens and have expertise in the theorical basis of carcinogenesis.
4   Analyse at the critical level the basic principles of cancer cells and cancer biology.
5   Synthesize the knowledge on proliferation, differantiation and apply it to new situations.
6   Creating the scientific report from obtained results and presentation these results as verbal and visual.

Assessment Criteria


Oral presentation: Each student will give an oral presentation based on a current scientific article related to the week s topic.
Final Paper: The final assignment will be to write a grant proposal focusing on the topics that we have covered in class.
A detailed description of the format and expectations will be given to students following the midterm presentation.
