Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to achieve a necessary understanding of the democratization process in Turkey and the historical milestones of this process.

1   The scope and basis of the history of Turkish Democracy
2   The political and democratic heritage from the Ottoman Empire
3   The struggle for modernism and democracy in the first years of the Republican Era
4   4. The comparisons of the democratization processes in Europe and Turkey
5   5. The historical breakpoints in the democratization processes in the Ottoman Empire and Turkish Republic
6   6. The reasons of the difficulties faced during the democratization process in the Republican Era
7   7. The comparison of the history of Turkish democracy and European democracy
