Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to introduce the Mediterranean trade during the period from the Bronze Age to the end of the 5th century AD and the cultural interactions which were experienced due to the trade in the light of archaeological and epigraphic evidences. Thus, it is aimed that the scope of maritime trade is consolidated examining the important port cities with their hinterlands and the content of the trade.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

4	To be able to explain the development of trade on ancient Eastern and Western Mediterranean Sea
5	To be able to outline the ancient sea routes on the Mediterranean Sea
6	To be able to explain the main stages of the evolution in the shipbuilding technology
7	To be able to analyze the development of the ancient port cities
8	To be able to evaluate the contribution of the Mediterranean commerce to the economy of the states
