Course Objective

To become competent at painting, to be able to develop personal projects and come up with artistic creations utilizing various materials.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To utilize oil painting technique at a competent level.
2   Be able to develop personal projects.
3   To make the connection between examples of contemporary painting and own work, be able to evaluate.
4   Discover the various possibilities of expression with oil paints.
5   To be able to conceptualize own work.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Designation of the semester plan and the general framework of the studies. Preliminary meeting about the projects.
2 Presentation of individual projects, evaluation on whether they're suitable for oil painting
3 Rendering of material qualities of various materials with oil paint, and presentation of examples
4 Still life studies focusing on rendering of material qualities of various materials
5 Examination of possibilities of color mixing with oil paint
6 Making color transitions with oil paint, an evaluation on the abstract expression possibilities of color
7 Preliminary evaluation on figure studies with oil paint, making of example sketches
8 Oil figure study continues
9 Oil figure study continues
10 Utilization of opportunities of creating volume with light and shadow in the context of figure studies
11 Discussion on the contribution of texture and color to the opportunities of expression
12 Preliminary evaluation on making a study of space with oil paint, making example sketches
13 Utilizing the possibilities of creating an atmosphere in space with oil paint
14 Evaluation of student projects, final evaluation
