Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to provide the students the necessary theoretical knowledge in microphone theory and aural and practical skills required for miking sound sources and musical instruments.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Show skills and knowledge in microphones, microphone specifications and miking techniques required in the field of music production,
2   Recognize the sound sources and musical instruments which will be miked in the studio or concerts,
3   Identify the timbral differences and aural properties of musical instruments in order to solve possible problems,
4   Relate possible miking techniques to various sound production environments and situations,
5   Choose the right kind of microphone and placements for sound sources.

The students are responsible with the use of the recording studio and all its equipment.
Students who wish to practice individually or as a group should inform the course instructor and schedule their practice sessions taking available studio hours into account.
Students who wish to practice individually or as a group should take the required hardware components (mics, cables, equipments etc.) from the course instructor and hand them back at the end of the session.
Only students taking this course are allowed to attend courses and practice sessions.
